Student Teaching Portfolio of Student Artworks

In the Spring of 2004, Mrs. Meyer-Kurka worked p/t as a graduate assistant under the auspices of Dr. Tuman, the Director of Art Education at the Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus in Old Brookville, New York. She helped facilitate a group of undergrad students through the creation of an educational art program for fifth grade children from a nearby public school, at a local museum. The program was devised around the Hillwood Art Museums past exhibit ‘A Walk Through the Ages.’ Mrs. Meyer-Kurka researched the museum exhibit and designed several handouts for children’s use in the program. Along with her colleagues, she taught fifth grade children about Chinese archaic culture through discussions and games pertaining to the museum artifacts. At the end of the program, the students created ceramics similar to the style of the Chinese archaic artifacts.

In the Fall of 2005, Mrs. Meyer-Kurka, completed her New York State student teaching requirements. Her elementary placement was at the Tremont Avenue Elementary School, in the Patchogue-Medford School District. Cathy Jones was her cooperating teacher. Her secondary placement was at the Islip Middle School, in the Islip School District. John Potter was her cooperating teacher.
